OUR CARE / OVERNIGHT CARE
Reassurance through the night.
Nighttime support at home can help with practical needs and reassurance. The frequency and type of help you need would determine whether a waking-night or sleeping-night arrangement is appropriate.
WHAT SUPPORT CAN LOOK LIKE
Thoughtful support after the day slows down.
The examples below describe the support we are preparing to offer. Your assessment and agreed care plan would specify exactly what can be provided.
- Settling for the nightSupport an agreed evening routine, including personal care and getting comfortable in bed.
- Help during the nightAssist with toileting, transfers or repositioning in line with the assessed care plan.
- Waking-night careDiscuss an arrangement with a professional awake and available throughout their shift when regular nighttime support is needed.
- Sleeping-night careConsider a professional sleeping at the home with occasional assistance only where assessed needs and suitable sleeping facilities allow.
- Reassurance and observationRespond calmly if you wake unsettled and carry out any observations specifically agreed within the professional’s competence.
- A clear morning handoverRecord the support given and pass on relevant information to you and your agreed daytime support.
A LITTLE MORE PRACTICAL
How this might fit into a day
If someone needs repeated help with toileting or repositioning, a waking-night arrangement may be appropriate. Occasional assistance requires a different assessment and should not be assumed to fit a sleeping-night service.
Before care begins, we would agree
- How often help is needed and what happens on a typical night.
- Any assessed moving-and-handling or clinical needs overnight.
- How nighttime support joins up with daytime care and the household’s routine.
Care depends on assessment, suitability, staffing and availability. Clinical tasks would only be agreed where the required professional skills and arrangements are in place.
