OUR CARE / DEMENTIA & ALZHEIMER’S CARE
Familiarity matters.
Support for adults living with dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease. We would build care around the person’s history, preferences and abilities, adapting the approach as their needs change.
WHAT SUPPORT CAN LOOK LIKE
Familiar routines. Meaningful moments.
The examples below describe the support we are preparing to offer. Your assessment and agreed care plan would specify exactly what can be provided.
- A familiar rhythmSupport regular meals, personal care and bedtime routines, with gentle prompts and time to respond.
- Personal care with dignityOffer patient assistance with washing, dressing and toileting, explaining each step and respecting the person’s choices.
- Eating and drinkingHelp prepare familiar meals and offer encouragement at mealtimes, following any assessed dietary or swallowing guidance.
- Activities that mean somethingMake space for music, conversation, photographs, hobbies or a familiar activity the person enjoys.
- Calm communicationUse reassuring language and the communication approaches that work for the individual, while noticing possible sources of distress.
- Working with familyLearn from the people who know the person well and share agreed updates about routines, comfort and changing needs.
A LITTLE MORE PRACTICAL
How this might fit into a day
A visit could start with a familiar cup of tea, move gently into getting dressed, then make time for favourite music or looking through photographs. The pace follows the person, rather than a rigid task list.
Before care begins, we would agree
- Familiar routines, interests and the words or approaches the person prefers.
- What can cause anxiety and what tends to help the person feel settled.
- How the person’s wishes, consent and any relevant decision-making arrangements will be respected.
Care depends on assessment, suitability, staffing and availability. Clinical tasks would only be agreed where the required professional skills and arrangements are in place.
